Former copper and silver ore mine near Vättis
In the 18th and 19th centuries, copper and silver ores were mined at the foot of Calanda, the Gnapperchopf near Vättis.
Today, the coloured copper ores and the metallic lead and silver ores are still clearly visible at the mining sites (hammer ban). On a guided tour lasting around two hours, participants learn not only about the history of Gnapperchopf mining and mining methods, but also a lot of interesting facts about the landscape, culture and history of the mountain village of Vättis. Gnapperchopf colliery is geological site no. 64 of the Sarganserland-Walensee-Glarnerland GeoPark.
