A road leads from the spa town of Bad Ragaz up into the Tamintal valley. Here, the largest arched bridge in Switzerland connects the two villages of Pfäfers and Valens. Pfäfers is famous for its former monastery and the old Pfäfers baths in the Tamina gorge, where people used to bathe in the healing thermal water from the Tamina gorge. The sun terrace on the St. Margrethenberg is popular with hikers in summer and cross-country skiers in winter. A side valley of the Tamina Valley, the Calfeisen Valley, branches off at Vättis. At the very back of Lake Gigerwald, an artificial lake dammed by a 150-metre-high wall, is the 700-year-old Walser settlement of St. Martin. Today it houses a restaurant and also offers various accommodation options in the historic houses. The Drachenloch Museum in Vättis displays finds from the Drachenloch, including Palaeolithic cave bear bones and documents from the 1917-1923 excavation period. A collection of minerals, Roman coins and a model of the Walser settlement of St. Martin complete the exhibition.
